We accept referrals to our specialty programs, behavioral health hospitals and inpatient units, outpatient programs, and Type I and Type II special education schools and residential treatment centers.
The Retreat: The Retreat is Sheppard Pratt’s premier, private pay residential program for adults 18 and older. Our clinicians specialize in difficult-to-treat and difficult-to-diagnose mood, personality, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders.
The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt: The Center for Eating Disorders offers inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) care for individuals 12 and up with eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, and OSFED.
The Trauma Disorders Program: The Trauma Disorders Program is a renowned, highly specialized inpatient program for adults with dissociative disorders and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.
Hospitals and Inpatient Units
Sheppard Pratt operates two comprehensive behavioral health hospitals in Maryland, with locations in Towson and Howard County. We serve individuals ages 4 – 99 with behavioral health and co-occurring disorders in our breadth of inpatient units. See all of our inpatient units.
We offer a dozen outpatient clinics throughout Maryland. Our clinics provide medication management; individual, group, and family therapy; support groups; and more. Exact insurance coverage varies by location, and we participate with Maryland Medicare, Maryland Medicaid, and many commercial insurance providers.

Special Education Schools
Sheppard Pratt offers a dozen Type I and Type II nonpublic special education schools, and operates a comprehensive residential treatment center for adolescents. Most referrals to Sheppard Pratt special education programs are made as the result of an Individualized Education Program.
