Benefits Summary

Benefits for new hires begin on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.  

Medical Insurance (available to employees working 30 hours or more per week)

Option 1: Kaiser Permanente Signature High Deductible HMO Plan

Through the Signature High Deductible HMO plan through Kaiser Permanente, members will be able to receive care at Kaiser medical centers which offers many types of medical care all in one location. Family Services covers a portion of the deductible expenses for each employee through the use of a pre-funded debit card that is administered by A/P Benefit Advisors. The debit card can be used for medical and prescription expenses that are subject to the deductible. The deductible for single coverage is $1,400 per plan year and the deductible for employee-plus dependent coverage is $2,800 per plan year.

The Kaiser Signature High Deductible HMO plan automatically enrolls employees in the Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). Family Services will fund each HRA with $1,000 for employee-only or $2,000 for employee-plus dependent coverage. However, it can ONLY be used on eligible medical expenses that are approved by the IRS (including dental and vision, which may not apply to the Kaiser deductible).

Option 2: Kaiser Permanente Flexible Choice Plan

The second medical option is the Flexible Choice plan through Kaiser Permanente. The Flexible Choice plan offers three options within itself which allow employees to choose to receive different level of benefits depending on where care is received. 

Flexible Spending Accounts (Available to employees working 20 or more hours per week)

Medical Reimbursement FSA 

This program allows employees to pay for certain IRS-approved medical care expenses not covered by the insurance plan using pre-tax dollars, up to a maximum of $2,750 per plan year.  

Dependent Care FSA 

The Dependent Care FSA allows employees to use pre-tax dollars towards qualified dependent care, such as caring for children under the age of 13 or caring for elders. The annual maximum amount you may contribute is $5,000 per plan year.

Dental Insurance (Available to employees working 20 or more hours per week)

Employees may purchase one of two plans through United Healthcare. The Discount Plan runs on a set fee schedule for each procedure and requires members to seek coverage at In-Network providers only. You must register with the Dominion Dental Network with an In Network provider before you will receive a dental card for this plan.

The Incentive PPO plan allows coverage both in and out of the network; however, members will receive greater discounts on services when seeing an in-network dentist. Orthodontic coverage is available through an Ortho-Select discount program. Dental Cards are mailed out upon enrollment.  

Vision Insurance (Available to employees working 20 hours or more on a permanent basis)

Employees may purchase vision coverage through the Humana Vision VCP plan, which provides access to one of the largest vision networks in the U.S., including national retail location, and provides benefits for both in and out of network services.

Basic Life and AD&D

All Family Services employees working 30 hours or more per week are provided with a benefit amount of one time your base salary in term Life and AD&D insurance through MetLife at no cost to the employee.

Eligible employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance to supplement the basic life insurance benefit amount that is provided by Family Services and AD&D coverage. Voluntary life insurance can be purchased for employees, spouses, and children through convenient payroll deduction.

Individual Short-Term Disability Insurance

Short Term Disability (STD) coverage is provided to you through Met Life Insurance. This benefit is provided at no cost to our employees who work 30 or more hours on a permanent basis. The benefit pays 60% of the employee’s base salary up to a weekly maximum of $4,615.38. There is a seven-day elimination period for this benefit and you can access this benefit beginning on the 8th day of disability through the 180th day.  

Voluntary Long-Term Disability Insurance

Employees may purchase voluntary long-term disability coverage with a 180-day elimination period through MetLife. Rates are based on age and income. Benefits begin on the 181st day of disability and will pay 60% of monthly salary up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. All Sheppard Pratt Employees working 30 hours or more are automatically enrolled in this benefit. If you do not wish to be enrolled, please waive your coverage at enrollment time.  

Voluntary Critical Illness Insurance

Employees may purchase Critical illness insurance through Voya to assist you in the event of you, your spouse, or your dependent child suffers an illness. Critical illness insurance pays a lump sum benefit amount upon the diagnosis of a covered disease or illness. Additional Childhood diseases are also covered. Employees who work 20 hours per week may enroll in this benefit. This Policy is portable and can be taken with you should you change employers.  

Voluntary Accident Insurance

Employees can purchase accident insurance through Voya. Accident insurance pays a specified amount for specific injuries and events resulting from a covered accident. To qualify for this benefit, you must work 20 hours per week or more. This policy is portable and can be taken with you should you change employers.

Employee Assistance Program

FSI provides all staff access to a free, confidential employee assistance program available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year at no cost to employees and their household members through BHS. Benefits include up to 8 face-to-face counseling sessions (which include assessment, follow-up and referral services) per plan year and assistance with issues regarding work-life balance, and referrals to services such as child-care, elder care, attorneys, social workers, etc. 

403(b) Retirement Plan

Family Services offers a 403(b) Retirement Plan provided by Mutual of America. Options of selecting pre-tax or after-tax (Roth) contributions are available. Employees will receive a Welcome Invitation to Mutual of America with a Login, a password and a special pin number to log in to create your account.  You can enroll at any time. Once enrolled, you may change your elections at any time either online with the Sponsor Connect Website or by asking for a Salary Reduction Form with the Human Resources Department. This benefit is available to all employees regardless of hours worked.) This benefit is not available to Indep Contractors or Temporary Staff.   

Types of Leave

Family Services’ offers annual leave starting at 10 days (80 hours) per year, sick leave at 12 days per year, 7 paid holidays and 3 personal days. Part-time employees designated as part-time 50% to 90% working a regular schedule are eligible for leave benefits on a pro-rated basis. Personal Days are distributed after an employee reaches their six-month anniversary.  

Tuition Reimbursement

Employees who work thirty (30) or more hours weekly are eligible for up to $2,500 of tuition reimbursement per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). You must be in a Benefits Eligible position and courses must be pre-approved before the start date.   

Additionally, Sheppard Pratt has a partnership with Ana G. Mendez University to provide a match to our tuition reimbursement when enrolled in 9 to 12 credits in a graduate or undergraduate program. Sheppard Pratt also has a partnership with Washington Adventist University that provides discounted tuition for graduate and undergraduate courses and a 10% discount for spouses and dependents. Please refer to your Employee Handbook on the details about the Tuition Reimbursement Program.  

Gym Membership Discount

There are three gyms that offer a membership discount to all Sheppard Pratt employees: They are ACAC, which is a fitness and wellness center with gyms located in Germantown, Hunt Valley, and Timonium; One Life Fitness facilities which has locations in Rockville, Frederick, Hagerstown, and Northern Virginia; and Brick Bodies which offers fitness locations in Baltimore, Reisterstown, and Padonia. The membership discounts are outlined below.
