Voluntary Admissions
There are a number of different ways that individuals can be admitted to Sheppard Pratt voluntarily. Please note that all patients must be medically stable, and must have been evaluated by a mental health clinician within 24 hours of the proposed admission.
If you or a loved one are currently in treatment for a mental health condition, you can be admitted by clinician referral: A treating mental health clinician may contact the Admissions Department at 410-938-3800 to arrange a direct admission to one of our hospitals or day hospitals.
If you or a loved one are not currently in treatment for a mental health condition, there are two ways you can get admitted:
-
By hospital/ER: Many patients come to us through a hospital ER. If you or a loved one is experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please go to your nearest ER. The team there will refer you to the appropriate treatment facility.
-
By crisis services/urgent assessment: Individuals who are not currently receiving treatment from a mental health clinician can call 410-938-5302 to schedule an urgent assessment with a Sheppard Pratt psychiatrist. That psychiatrist will determine the appropriate level of
care, and will help arrange next steps. Or, you can come to our Crisis Walk-In Clinic on our Towson campus for an unscheduled evaluation. Click here to learn more about our crisis and urgent assessment services.
