The day is broken up by classroom learning at the host business and on-site training. The first hour of classroom learning is focused on employability and independent living skills based on the national Project SEARCH curriculum. Interns spend the remaining hours of their day in dedicated on-site training. Together, we focus on skills such as:

  • Team building
  • Navigation and workplace safety
  • Presentation skills
  • Social/communication skills
  • Job seeking skills (resume building, interview skills, etc.)
  • Money management
  • Health and wellness
  • Maintaining employment
  • Employer-specific skills

Anne Arundel Medical Center

Anne Arundel Medical Center accepts up to 10 new interns each school year who are given a chance to explore opportunities available in the growing medical field and see the work that goes into maintaining a medical center on a daily basis. The workday is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students will be provided with an iPod (provided by DORS) for daily communication if they do not have a cell phone. If selected to serve as an intern at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, examples of internships include: Breast Imaging Center; Bayside Cafe; Central Sterile Processing; Doordan Institute; Engineering; Environmental Services; Hackerman-Patz House; Human Resources; Information Systems; Labor and Delivery; Marketing; Materials Management; Medical Outpatient Oncology; Patient Financial Services; Patient Services; Radiology Transport; Patient Information Desk; The Clothes Box; and The Foundation.

BWI Hilton

The BWI Hilton Hotel accepts up to 12 new interns each school year who get the opportunity to learn the inner workings of the hospitality industry—from kitchen duties, to maintenance work, to event preparation. The workday is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If selected to serve as an intern at the BWI Hilton, example internships include: Banquet; Employee Cafe; Hilton Kitchen; Hilton Kitchen Utility; Housekeeping; Houseman; Laundry; Maintenance; and Restaurant.
