David Hernandez, MD

Dr. David Hernandez is a psychiatrist at The Retreat, Sheppard Pratt’s premier, private pay residential program. Dr. Hernandez completed his residency in psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center, where he served as one of the chief residents, and was the recipient of the Davidoff Society Award for Housestaff Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Hernandez earned his MD at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth; he graduated cum laude from Rutgers University. He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Hernandez is board certified in psychiatry and has a Suboxone waiver. He completed a 2 year Psychoanalytic Studies Program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis. He is currently a sub investigator on multiple ongoing research studies at Sheppard Pratt. His areas of interest include psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. He has had extensive training in CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapeutic modalities. He is also active in supervising current psychiatry residents.
