Crisis Intervention Services

Urgent Assessments

Referral Information: 410-938-HELP (4357)

Our Urgent Assessment Service is available for patients in crisis who need to see an experienced psychiatrist as soon as possible for a one-time only, face-to-face appointment. The psychiatrist can then decide if further treatment is necessary. Urgent Assessment is not intended to be an ongoing outpatient care arrangement, but rather is a way to provide urgent care and to point the person in the right direction to receive ongoing help.

Appointments are generally scheduled one to two days in advance, and take place Monday through Friday, during daytime hours. Patients are expected to pay their co-pay at the time of service. For referrals, please call 410-938-HELP (4357).

Scheduled Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP)

Referral Information: 410-938-5302

Our Scheduled Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) is a service for child, adolescent, or adult patients with urgent psychiatric needs who are likely to require treatment from and/or a direct referral to a more intensive level of care, such as partial hospitalization or inpatient care. For medically stable patients, our SCIP is an alternative to an emergency room visit and provides the supportive intervention needed to help the patient heal and recover.

When you or someone you know is in crisis and needs intervention, an initial phone screening is helpful to determine whether it is appropriate to be evaluated at SCIP. If it is determined that SCIP is appropriate, an appointment is scheduled with a licensed psychiatrist, within 24 hours if possible.

SCIP appointments take place on our Towson campus, Monday through Thursday, afternoons and evenings. Patients are expected to pay their co-pay at the time of service. For referrals, please call 410-938-5302.
