Activities of daily living (ADLs) are basic and routine tasks that are performed every day for self-care and maintenance in order to live independently. The basic ADLs are bathing, dressing, transferring (movement), using the toilet, and eating. Additional tasks are instrumental activities of daily living (or IADLs), and are more advanced than basic ADLs. IADLs include activities such as shopping, healthcare, technology, cooking, cleaning, and more.
