Sheppard Pratt Health System Holds Groundbreaking for New Hospital Campus

Sheppard Pratt Health System held a groundbreaking today for its new, state-of-the-art hospital campus in Howard County, Maryland. The 40-acre campus will include an 85-bed, 156,000-square-foot hospital with inpatient, partial hospital, and crisis services. The campus will also include a 76,000-square-foot medical office building as well as two building pads for future expansion.

"Our new hospital campus uniquely positions Sheppard Pratt to meet the ever-increasing needs in our community and provide another access point for mental health, addiction services, and outpatient care. It reflects a bold step we are taking to dramatically increase offerings across the state and country,” said Dr. Harsh K. Trivedi, president and CEO of Sheppard Pratt Health System. “With the support of our Board, elected officials, and deeply committed donors, we have an opportunity to improve the lives of individuals, their families, and our broader community." 

The hospital, which is expected to open in 2020, will provide much needed access for ages across the lifespan, including a crisis walk-in clinic with same day access for urgent assessments. It will create a continuum of services similar to its Towson flagship campus, including addiction and eating disorder services. 

The medical office building on the campus will include outpatient and integrated behavioral health services including substance use services—with a focus on opioid addiction—as well as other mental health and support services.

The new hospital design features outdoor courtyards and terraces, and it will offer patients a comprehensive, therapeutic, and recreational environment to support their treatment, healing, and recovery.
