Gerardo I. Collazo Malavé, MD, is a forensic and child & adolescent psychiatrist at Sheppard Pratt’s hospital in Towson. He provides comprehensive psychiatric care for adolescents with complex emotional, behavioral, developmental, and social needs, working closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery, resilience, and long-term well-being.

Dr. Collazo Malavé completed his general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, where he was recognized for his commitment to patient-centered care as well as his research and teaching interests. He later pursued subspecialty training in forensic psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center, completing a fellowship with a specialized track in children and adolescents. During this fellowship, he evaluated both adults and adolescents in diverse legal contexts, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, pre-sentence evaluations, transfer of jurisdiction, psychiatric dispositions, risk assessment, treatment planning, and more.

His clinical and academic interests include juvenile forensic evaluations, trauma-informed care, child maltreatment, sexual violence prevention, impulsive and disruptive behavior disorders, substance use disorders, and the ethical and legal dimensions of psychiatric practice in both criminal and civil law. He has presented research nationally and internationally, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based approaches at the intersection of psychiatry, law, and social justice.

Dr. Collazo Malavé is a member of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he is dedicated to advancing access to high-quality psychiatric treatment and supporting the well-being of children, adolescents, their families, and the community.
