Psychologist

Psychologists have a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in psychology. While earning a PhD or PsyD, psychologists are learning how to diagnose and treat various mental health disorders. Following graduation, they complete an internship to enhance their education in psychotherapy, behavior, and other treatment methods. Psychologists treat patients through psychotherapy, counseling, and psychological testing. Psychologists are trained to diagnose mental health disorders, but do so from a behavioral and evaluation perspective as opposed to a medical perspective. Except in a few states that have recently enacted new regulations, psychologists cannot prescribe medications but typically work together with psychiatrists to treat patients who need medications.
