Peer mediation is a problem-solving method between two peers, usually two students. During peer mediation, the two parties resolve their dispute in a private, safe environment with the assistance of trained mediators. The mediator assists both sides to come to a mutually satisfactory solution and also provides follow-up to ensure that all parties are comfortable with the solution and the process. Peer mediation is voluntary, has been shown to improve self-esteem and critical thinking skills, and reduce the need for formal discipline in schools.
