Medical assistance is a state-administered program designed to pay healthcare costs for low-income individuals, children, elderly adults, and others. The State of Maryland offers two kinds of medical assistance:

  • Maryland Children’s Health Insurance Program (MCHP): MCHP utilizes both Federal and State funds to provide full medical insurance for children up to age 19 and for pregnant women who meet certain income eligibility guidelines
  • Medicaid: Medicaid utilizes both Federal and State funds to provide full medical insurance for low-income individuals
