Child care is the supervision of children by a day care center, babysitter, nanny, or other provider when the parents, guardians, or family member of the child are working or otherwise occupied and not available to care for their child. Child care should provide compassionate protection and supervision, keep a child safe, and meet their basic needs. In Maryland, a child care center is a center run by an individual, agency, or organization, and offers child care for any or all of the day at least two days per week. Child care centers are regulated by COMAR 13A.16.
