The so-called ‘post-termination phase’ is very much an evolving, alive aspect to the therapist, whether or not to label it in the countertransferential sphere or not, deserves attention. The idea that countertransference holds its utility in the service of the treatment seems to fall short of such significance when the physical meetings of the therapy have since ceased after termination.
