Dr. Michael Young is the medical director of The Retreat by Sheppard Pratt as well as associate director of the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt residency training program. He has a special interest in treating mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. Dr. Young values an integrated approach to psychiatric and medical care and believes in the mantra “cura personalis,” which means, care for the whole person. He completed a master’s degree in applied biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and graduated from Georgetown School of Medicine in 2009. His post-graduate medical training was completed at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Residency Training Program. Dr. Young is board certified in general psychiatry. He also completed a fellowship at the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis and is adept at various modalities of psychotherapy.

Dr. Young is passionate about medical education and helping psychiatric trainees and early career clinicians develop comprehensive diagnostic and treatment planning skills. He is the associate residency training director for the resident physicians rotating at Sheppard Pratt throughout their years of psychiatric training. 

Dr. Young is widely published and enjoys opportunities to present to both academic and public audiences on both the value of residential care and how to treat patients with complex clinical presentations including multiple co-occurring disorders.
