Forbush_PG_washing_machine.pngOnce enrolled, our experienced staff will review your child or adolescent’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and modify our instructional areas to fit his or her educational needs. We are dedicated to helping our students develop daily living and independent living skills through rigorous individualized schedules. With a low student to teacher ratio of two to one, our students receive the individual attention needed for motor skill development, positive behavioral support, and sensory integration.

We understand that every student’s educational needs will vary and that each student will require individual plans and support when preparing to transition to adulthood. Our strong vocational program and teacher-family-student support system, allows us to help our students learn to succeed in the community and gain a sense of independence as they mature. With the help of our transition coordinator, many of our students receive job placement at various national businesses in the community, and receive the support they need to transition to adulthood.

Our vocational program provides our students with both classroom and internship experiences in horticulture, restaurant, and retail. We also have a dedicated vocational space where students focus on activities to build daily living skills. Our students also have the opportunity to partake in our creative arts program, which includes music, dance, drama, and other fine arts opportunities.

Throughout the school year, we also take our students on quarterly community outings, like swimming trips and horseback riding.

Utilizing a student-centric, team-based approach, we implement the Maryland State Curriculum and the Syracuse Community Reference-Curriculum Guide for students with moderate to severe disabilities, to help our students transition into the community and lead successful lives. We actively engage parents in our program to help reinforce what’s learned in school in the home environment. Upon graduation, our staff works hard to help our families and students with the transition to adulthood, connecting our parents and students with agencies and appropriate living options.

Because we are part of Sheppard Pratt Health System, our staff has access to the best training, treatment practices, and current technology; this allows us to provide your child with the best education to meet his or her needs. In addition, we actively collaborate with other Health System schools and professionals to ensure that we are sharing experiences, lessons, and best practices across the various special education programs.
