The Department of Clinical Research Programs focuses our research on two main areas:  clinical trials on the use of various pharmaceuticals and neurostimulation devices on difficult-to-treat mood disorders, like depression and bipolar disorder, and research on Alzheimer’s disease. We also run the clinical TMS program at Sheppard Pratt Health System, and were one of the first sites in the country to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy to treat depression. Please click here for more information on our TMS Services.

Under the direction of Scott T. Aaronson, M.D., a Board Certified adult psychiatrist with over 10 years experience as a principal investigator, the program operates in a dedicated and specially designed space equipped with private exam rooms and offices, and locked pharmaceutical and medical records rooms. Dr. Aaronson is not only the Program Director for our Department of Clinical Research Programs, but he is also the Deputy Medical Director on The Retreat, our premiere, private-pay unit.

Sheppard Pratt Health System's Department of Clinical Research Programs is committed to high quality, efficient, and effective research conducted in an ethical manner and with exquisite attention to protocol management and data collection.
