Disability
There are many definitions of disability. Under IDEA, 13 specific disabilities are outlined. They are:
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Blindness
- Deafness
- Emotional disturbance
- Hearing impairment
- Intellectual disability
- Multiple disabilities
- Orthopedic impairment
- Other health impaired
- Specific learning disability
- Speech or language impairment
- Traumatic brain injury
- Visual impairment
The definition of disability under Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is broader. The definition of disability under Section 504 is, “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual.”
