Changing Lives Together

A Q&A with Christina Pride

How long have you worked at Sheppard Pratt?

I have worked at Sheppard Pratt for eight years. I started as a staff nurse and then moved into the charge nurse role. Now, I am the unit manager for the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt. I oversee the unit’s daily operations of the staff and manage the care needed for patients with the help of the interdisciplinary team.

What do you enjoy most about working at Sheppard Pratt?

I most enjoy my co-workers and team and being able to help patients get back to feeling like themselves again. I remember working with a patient who transformed in front of my eyes. This patient came in so weak he could not hold his own head up on his shoulders. With various treatment modalities, he was making jokes and enjoying life again. He sent us a thank you note with a photo of him at prom, happy and finally feeling free from the eating disorder.

What advice do you have for your staff?

When you come to work, prepare to care for patients in the same way you want others to care for your family members/friends if they were in treatment.

What is your biggest source of inspiration?

My family. I have six sisters and two brothers. With my mom and dad included, we make 11 total. I am here only because of their support and encouragement.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am the proud mom of a beautiful 2-year-old girl named Brooke. I like to go to church, watch movies with my family, travel, and cook.

Favorite place you’ve ever traveled?

For my birthday, my boyfriend gifted me a trip to Mexico. We went to Cancun, and I added a stamp to my passport. It was nice to not think about plans and just enjoy life.

What would you title the autobiography of your life?

It’s Me, Everybody!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Take my family on a vacation around the world.
