There’s probably a teacher you had who you still remember to this very day. Whether they inspired a love of a subject, wrote a letter of recommendation for college, or lent an ear–their impact can still be felt.
That kind of dedication, that care for students–it’s palpable in the Sheppard Pratt Schools across Maryland, and that is thanks to our amazing educators.
They help every student thrive and learn, stopping at nothing to support the hundreds of exceptional children in our care. Our teachers, behavior specialists, doctors, social workers, and education assistants prepare children for meaningful and fulfilling futures.
That’s why we launched the Educator Appreciation campaign: to celebrate the education team members who go above and beyond each and every day to help children who deserve wholehearted, compassionate support. Our education team members do more than just teach. They help children learn new coping skills, reinforce positive behaviors, and prepare their students for a life worth living.
Meet some of our Sheppard Pratt educators:
Shadaia Golden, lead teacher, Sheppard Pratt School in Hunt Valley
Shadaia has been teaching at Sheppard Pratt School in Hunt Valley for over a decade and feels that the “experience has been like no other.” She shares that the supportive environment is important to her and that serving others is her passion.
Seeing a student succeed is the most rewarding feeling. When students reach their fullest potential, when they are thriving and developing skills that can be used outside of school–it’s so special. Every day, we celebrate the wins.
Esther Chung, art teacher, Sheppard Pratt School in Rockville
Growing up, Esther always loved art. She felt it gave her a sense of freedom and a way to express emotions that words often couldn’t capture. As she created art, she felt empowered–and today, she loves empowering her students.
I thrive on the moments when their eyes light up with creativity, they take the smallest step forward, or they connect what we’re learning to their own lives. Art isn't about perfection–it’s about exploration, expression, personal growth. I strive to help my students see its infinite possibilities.
Natalie Crabbs Mollett, high school principal, Sheppard Pratt School in Glyndon
Natalie–formerly a science teacher–is the high school principal at Sheppard Pratt School in Glyndon. When she was in the classroom, she loved helping her students connect with scientific concepts and see the possibilities that STEM can illuminate.
“I’m a scientist by trade,” Natalie says. “I love to help students problem-solve and appreciate the challenge. As principal, I help students solve different types of challenges.”
When she reflects on why she loves working at Sheppard Pratt School in Glyndon, Natalie focuses on the community of the school.
Our team members care about one another so much–there’s incredible support from the top down. And our students’ personalities are amazing; seeing them come here and be successful is so moving and incredible.
