Build it Better: A place for children to learn and grow

Winter

At Sheppard Pratt, we pride ourselves on being the largest provider of nonpublic special education programming in Maryland, offering vital resources for children to learn and work toward independence. Our commitment to hundreds of students throughout the state helps them learn life skills and prepare for life beyond the classroom—through schools, internship programs, and community-based instruction.

In September, we expanded upon that commitment through the growth of Sheppard Pratt School in Gaithersburg.

We support students with autism and related disabilities who have complex and diverse behavioral learning needs. These students need highly specialized services and levels of attention to learn the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond, skills that will help them live independently, get a job, and maintain a home.

The addition of five classrooms allows us to increase our enrollment capacity by 30 students. The school includes a large common area and instructional areas, including mock living spaces, where students can practice independent and home living skills.

It is because of the unwavering commitment of our community and our staff that these children achieve things they or their parents might never have thought possible. The children in our care make incredible progress—not just academically, but in confidence, connection, and independence.
