Technology has become a vital tool in the classroom, particularly for students with disabilities.
It enhances learning, independence, and communication, and fosters connections between students. During the pandemic, administrators and teachers at Sheppard Pratt schools found that students responded positively to technology-based activities.
As the COVID-19 pandemic persisted, the PNC Foundation helped ensure digital equity for students with autism and emotional disabilities in our Hunt Valley, Reisterstown, and Glyndon schools. With the Foundation’s generous support, we purchased tablets so that each student had their own dedicated device.
When in-person learning resumed, teachers incorporated technology-based activities. Access to a dedicated device has been critical for students’ successful transitions back to in-person schools. Students use their devices to communicate more effectively, view digital textbooks and online material, and participate in online activities.
“The PNC Foundation is committed to partnering with organizations that enhance educational opportunities,” says Joshua Kakel, Board Chair at Sheppard Pratt and Executive Vice President and Regional Managing Director at PNC Institutional Asset Management. “We are pleased to have been able to provide every student with the necessary technology to cultivate an engaging learning environment and expand access to educational and therapeutic activities.”
The PNC Foundation, and all of our corporate partners, strengthen our ability to provide compassionate care. Their generosity is far-reaching and touches the lives of many by enhancing programs and services, providing therapeutic materials, and fulfilling patient needs.
We gratefully acknowledge our corporate donors’ extraordinary support and commitment to mental healthcare.
