Hannah More at Severn River Middle School is a 10-month special education program, located in Severn River Middle School, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, that provides educational services to students ages 11 to 15 with autism spectrum disorder and emotional disabilities.
Our program is designed to meet a child or adolescent’s special education needs while providing maximum opportunity to integrate him or her into Severn River Middle School’s educational program. Once enrolled, our experienced staff will review the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and modify our instructional areas to fit the student’s needs to ensure maximum growth. Our students spend as much or as little time in the Hannah More Program as necessary to meet their special education needs, spending the rest of their time in the public school program. Students in our program have access to all of the school’s facilities, including the media center, cafeteria, and computer lab. At a minimum, all students participate in physical education classes in the general education setting.
Utilizing a student-centric, team-based approach, we implement the Anne Arundel Public School Curriculum, to help our students transition into the public school community and lead successful lives.
We understand the importance of engaging parents in the education of their child or adolescent and provide daily updates in addition to routinely scheduled meetings with the school clinicians to ensure the parent is kept informed as to the student’s progress. Families also have the opportunity to participate in Severn River Middle School’s activities and events, as well as receive the Severn River Middle School newsletter.
As part of Sheppard Pratt Health System, our passionate, dedicated staff has access to the best training, treatment practices, and technology, which in turn enables us to provide our students with the best education to meet their needs. We actively collaborate with other Health System schools and professionals to share learnings and strategies that can be used with within our programs.
Our related services include:
- Individual and group counseling
- Speech and language therapy
- Occupational therapy (Services provided by Anne Arundel County Public School staff)
Our school, categorized as Type II, is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
