Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit
Medical Director: Marc Zisselman, M.D.
Unit Manager: Lisa Bazos
Admission Information: 410-938-3800
Visiting Hours: 1 - 2 p.m. and 6 - 7 p.m. daily
Our 18-bed unit provides a specialized neuropsychiatry track for cognitively-impaired patients, often with complications of dementing illness. The psychiatric symptoms may be the result of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, neurodegenerative disorders, or head trauma. Average length of stay on this unit is between two and three weeks.
We use Senior Gems®, a program developed by Senior Helpers and dementia expert Teepa Snow, as our behavioral management program for dementia patients. The behavioral management strategies learned through this program allow our nursing staff to successfully manage agitated patients with varying stages of dementing illness, without resorting to intramuscular injections or seclusion.
Services include:
- Individual, group and family psychotherapy
- Activities therapy
- Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) if appropriate
- Medication management
- Discharge planning
