Virtual Wednesday Lecture: Ethical Challenges for Mental Health Care in Prison

THIS LECTURE IS AVAILABLE ONLINE ONLY.

Join Andy Watts, PhD, ThM, MDiv, Professor of Religion, Coordinator, Field Education, College of Theology and Christian Ministry, Belmont University, for this free Virtual Wednesday @ Sheppard Pratt lecture.

The ecotone of the prison presents several challenges to ethical, just, and beneficial mental health care in prisons in the United States. Within the walls of the prison, the ongoing experiences of trauma, degradation and deprivation are affected by institutional-level and individual-level factors.  Understanding the inter-relationality of these factors is paramount for the ethical delivery of mental health to the incarcerated.

At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:

  1. Recognize challenges to the AMA Principles of Ethics by mental health care delivery in prison in the United States.
  2. Identify the most urgent factors affecting ethical mental health care delivery in prison in the United States.
  3. Analyze the effects of the delivery of justice in prisons in the United States on the delivery of mental health care in prisons.
