Workshop

Spring 2019 Psychology Workshop Series: Professional Ethics and Boundaries in Clinical Practice

This workshop will present models of ethical reasoning, relevant codes of ethics, and a framework for ethical concepts and how to apply them to everyday professional practice. The focus of this activity is ethical and boundary issues and elements of risk management. Structured as an interactive exercise rather than using an “ask the ethicist” format, the audience will be expected to discuss real life situations with their colleagues. The goal is for participants to apply models of ethical reasoning to ethical and boundary issues within their practice.

After attending this lecture, clinicians will be able to:

  • Describe models of ethical reasoning.
  • Identify fundamentals of ethical practice.
  • Apply these principles to case examples.

This workshop is presented by Michael C. Heitt, PsyD, Clinical Psychologist, Heitt Clinical & Corporate Consulting, LLC. Dr. Heitt is a licensed psychologist and an expert on the topics of ethical practice, managing professional boundaries, and dealing with occupational challenges. He earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago in 1996, and has served on the faculties of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Loyola University Maryland.

This presentation meets the requirements of the topic of laws, ethics, and risk management.
