Overview
Motivational interviewing is an approach based on Carl Roger’s person-centered therapy model and established by Miller and Rollnick in 1983. This approach can help individuals experiencing gambling-related harms to recognize their ambivalent feelings and find the internal motivation necessary to change their behavior.
This training will explore the use of motivational interviewing techniques for people with gambling disorder, as well as other harm reduction strategies.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
- Implementation of motivational interviewing techniques with those with an identified gambling disorder.
- Define limited gambling and the role harm reduction play in gambling treatment.
- Integration of the Stages of Change and tips for goal setting to reduce gambling related harms.
