The Forbush School at Margaret Brent serves approximately 12 elementary school students who have been referred for special education services because of their autism disorder. Autism is a complex developmental disability resulting from a neurological disorder that impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Services provided at the school include special education, behavioral programming, occupational therapy and speech therapy. There is a student to staff ratio of two students to one staff.

The program is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Type II 12 month program.
