The Frost School is a day school that provides special education services for elementary, middle, and high school students with emotional and behavioral disorders and Autism. Students with other disabilities such as learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, speech/language impairments, and other health impairments are also accepted, if their individual needs can be met in the Frost milieu. The school contains four different programs each providing a supportive and structured environment integrating specialized academic instruction, counseling, transition services, and behavioral modification specific to each student population. Frost School is approved as a Special Education School by the Maryland State Department of Education and serves students from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Classes are small and students receive instruction based on their IEP (Individualized Education Program).

The Frost Program: The Frost program serves elementary, middle, and high school students utilizing a therapeutic community/group model. Special education and counseling are integrated within the milieu. Students are taught communication, personal accountability, problem solving, social skills, and relationship building skills through the daily group counseling sessions and community meetings. Students also participate in family counseling once a week.

The Lodge Program: The Lodge program serves middle and high school students with emotional and behavioral disorders and high functioning Autism. A comprehensive range of treatment is carefully integrated into the educational plan for each student including individual psychotherapy, weekly group psychotherapy, family therapy and/or parent casework. The Lodge Program at Frost School is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Level V special education school and uses the Montgomery County Public School curriculum.

The Oakmont Primary Program: The Oakmont Primary Program provides special education and related services to children ages 5 – 15 with autism, pervasive development disorder (PDD), developmental delays in one or more areas, severe behavioral problems, multiple learning problems and other related disorders. The school serves up to 30 students.

The Oakmont Secondary Program: The Oakmont Secondary Program serves adolescents with Autism and Asperger’s disorders that are expected to earn a high school diploma but may require more structure than what is provided by the other two Frost programs. Students receive more individualized support, social skills training and have specific behavior plans as they gradually integrate into the Frost Community Program or the Lodge Program.
