Nurse
I'm David and I'm a Psychiatric Nurse. I like working at Sheppard Pratt because
I can specialize in a specific population of patients defined by diagnosis or
age.
Currently I am working with trauma patients. Sheppard Pratt also has discrete
units that treat patients with psychotic disorders, dual diagnosis, and
schizophrenia, and focus on crisis stabilization and short term treatment.
There are geriatric and child and adolescent units as well. Another plus is
that I am able to continue my education here through in service training and at
any of a number of nursing schools in the Baltimore area.

Mental Health Worker
Arleen and I are Mental Health Workers at Sheppard Pratt. I work in alot of
different units because I'm a float mental health worker.
Other mental health workers are permanently assigned to a particular unit of
the hospital. In either capacity, we're in charge of patient rounds and
interacting with patients on an ongoing basis according to their needs. We
direct some group counseling sessions like the Goals Group. In that group I
meet with patients each day to help them identify their goals for the next 24
hours. The mental health worker is the patient's main support system.

Teacher
I'm Sharon and I'm a Teacher at the Forbush School which is
operated by Sheppard Pratt. Forbush runs from pre-K through high school. I
teach in the high school...social studies. The kids I work with have emotional
problems, so I don't just work with them on their academics, but I also help
them overcome emotional and behavioral challenges. In that sense I'm part of a
team that includes their psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. My
classes are small and we do alot of experiential learning, which is what these
kids often find most engaging. For example, when we did a unit on archeology,
we participated in a real archeological dig. I enjoy the small classes and am
gratified by the progress I see in my students. My work is challenging, but
very rewarding!

Teacher's Assistant
I'm Calvin and I'm a Teacher's Assistant. I work directly under
the classroom teacher. I prepare materials for lessons, work one-on-one with
students who need individual attention, and generally assist the classroom
teacher in any way he needs. Our students require a good deal of supervision
and attention.
I really enjoy working as part of a team of professionals. Everyone here is
very focused on the mission of the school; to help these kids overcome their
disabilities and succeed.
If you need reasonable accommodations in the employment application process, please contact the Division of Human Resources at 410-938-3318.
