The Stanley Research Program at Sheppard Pratt conducts studies on
schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The program is funded by the
Stanley Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Md., a foundation
dedicated to supporting research on the causes and treatments of serious mental
illness. The program at Sheppard Pratt is pursuing several investigations about
the role of infectious agents and inflammatory markers in serious mental
illness. The program also performs clinical trials with antibiotic and other
antimicrobial agents as add-on treatments for individuals with schizophrenia.
The Stanley Research Program at Sheppard Pratt is dedicated to advancing
knowledge about schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and about treatments that
may help in reducing the symptoms of these illnesses. The program is staffed by
Faith Dickerson, Ph.D., psychologist and program head; Sunil Khushalani, M.D.,
psychiatrist; Cassie Stallings, RNC, senior clinical research nurse; Andrea
Origoni, data manager; and Anne Sullens and Crystal Copp, research
coordinators. The staff welcomes calls or inquiries from persons who may be
interested in the program's work.
